Hi.

Welcome to my blog. This is my little corner of the internet for documenting my freelance writing projects and musings. Thanks for stopping by!

Ins, Outs, What Have You's Vol. 4

Happy New Year!

We are still in that post-Christmas fog, where no one is quite sure what day it is and candy seems to magically manifest onto the counter (even after I’m sure I purged the house of the last peanut butter cup).

We are mostly in the, “spend the afternoon building Magnatiles in your pajamas” stage of vacation.

I’m trying to hang onto a bit of Christmas cheer before the official end of the liturgical season, but honestly, I’m wiped out. For now, the tree is still up. So are the outdoor lights and the nativities. Otherwise, I’m doing what feels right and packing up Christmas 2019 a bit early.

All in all, it was a lovely holiday. We ate yummy food, spent time with folks we love and no one was sick. I’ll call that a win.

Please ignore the horrible gold oak trim that is leaving us soon and focus on those faces!!

I did discover a few days before Christmas that my oven isn’t working properly. I suspected as much and ordered an oven thermometer. Turns out, it was running 100-150 degrees cooler than indicated. That explained the lackluster cookie baking the week before. We’ve temporarily solved the problem by cranking the heat up, but send good vibes that we find a solution.

The day after Christmas, we headed into Chicago to poke around the aquarium again and enjoy a little German food. If you live near a major city and host relatives and/or friends, I highly recommend a museum or zoo membership. Just “exploring” a city with guests isn’t always conducive to nap times, weather, interests, etc. Having a planned starting point makes for an easier day.

I finally picked up Educated on a last-minute Target run before Christmas. Y’all, it was so good. I think it could be difficult (triggering) for someone who has a personal history of abuse or for folks with family members battling mental illness. The author’s description of all of the workplace accidents, medical crises’ and general disaster were worth the read alone.

No, I haven’t seen Little Women yet. Outrageous, I know. I’m hoping for an early matinee when the kids go back to school. I’ve heard good things, but I’m a WFE (Winona for Ever) girl myself. The Catholic blogosphere seems happy, so we will see.

That’s all for now. Hope your 2020 is off to a great start!
